I am working on learning Ruby to create a barter credits application that interacts with a USB scanner. Since we’ve been thinking about getting a scanner at home for a while in order to streamline addition of books to our personal library catalogs, this was the perfect excuse! As you might have guessed, I have been scanning books all day, when I haven’t been playing with the slow process of learning a new programming language. Life’s simple pleasures, eh?

In the meantime, though, here’s some food for thought: the cost of a day of hospitalization ~$2,000, where as the cost of providing supportive housing is ~$30/day.

Update: Other commentaries have been more complete than mine would have been, so I’ll leave it to the professionals.
